The country of Tanzania has attracted migrants from all over Africa since time immemorial. The Tanzania people are an eclectic mix of various races and creeds.
The Tanzania people are an aggregation of a number of African ethnic groups. A substantial minority of Asian descent also reside in Tanzania. The ancestors of the Tanzanian Asians came from various Asian countries like India, Pakistan and the Arab countries. The Tanzanian African population consists of a number of ethnic tribes. The list of ethnic tribes includes prominent African tribes like the Haya tribe, Nyamwezi tribe, Chagga tribe and the Sukuma tribe. The majority of the people of Tanzania betray Bantu ancestry. Other majority tribal groups living among the Tanzanian people are the nomadic Masai and Luo. Tanzania people of Nilotic descent are also found.
Tanzania has a substantial Asian minority population. The non-Africans account for 1% of the total Tanzanian population. The Asian ethnic people originated from the Indian sub-continent and the Arab states of west Asia. A small number of people of Persian or Iranian descent could be found in Tanzania. These people are known as 'Shirazi' in local parlance. The national language of the people in Tanzania is Swahili followed by English.
