Tajikistan Fauna

Tajikistan may be a small country hidden in Central Asia but Tajikistan fauna is not small rather surprisingly it is diverse than one can imagine. Tajikistan has a varied climate. There is little rainfall throughout the year. There are also high mountains. There is an abundant fauna in Tajikistan. The wildlife has strangely adapted to the harsh conditions of Tajikistan. Despite the scanty rainfall and the extreme temperature range there is no dearth in the animal life of Tajikistan. Tajikistan is a proud owner of a multitude of fauna. The different species of fauna of Tajikistan will attract not only the trained scientist but it will most certainly fascinate ordinary people who hardly take any interest in the animal life.

The deserts of Tajikistan are fested with venomous snakes like cobras and vipers. The deserts are also reputed for harboring the notorious monitor lizards which can reach enormous size of about 2 m.Birds of prey like vulture, owls, hawks and eagles fly over the desert. Other birds like bee eaters, geese, partridges and swans comprise other species of fauna at Tajikistan. Many venomous scorpions, large and deadly spiders crawl on the desert floors.

The forests are home to chirpy crickets, beetles, mantids, dragon flies, grass hoppers, mosquitoes, stick insects and swallowtail butterflies. Geckos, toads, giant tortoises and frogs are also found. The mountains predominantly have alpine forests which are home to lynx deer, antelope Saygak, foxes, wild boar, desert hedgehogs, pikas, wolves, porcupines, badgers, marmots, snow leopard and different types of mountain goats like Ibex, Marco Polo sheep and the Siberian horned goat. The Marco Polo sheep, Ibex and antelope Saygak are hunted frequently by the natives and other foreign hunters lowering their number rapidly. Hence it is feared that in the next few years these majestic animals of Tajikistan will become extinct. However, the negligence on behalf of the government continues to make the Pamirs of Tajikistan a heaven for the daring wild hunters.

The sparkling rivers of Tajikistan is home to many fish like the rat-tail fish and scarfiringus.

The extreme temperature and diverse topography of the land gives birth to Tajikistan fauna which is complex and large.
