According to the census of 2007, Taiwan has a population of 22,858,872. The governmental reports says that Taiwan has 98% of Han Chinese population, 2% population of Aborigines of Taiwan, Confucianism, Buddhism, Taoism comprises to another 93%.Christian comprise only 4.5% of the population. The Christian churches in Taiwan have been very active over the years. Christians in Taiwan are divided into two groups Protestants and the Presbyterians. Christians in Taiwan belong to the minority community.
According to a survey done by the Operation World, evangelical Christians comprises of 2.5% of Taiwan's population. Out of this 2.5% half of them go to church regularly. There are less than 0.5% of Christians in the working class society of Taiwan. The Christians in Taiwan mostly belong to the middle or upper middle class section. Most of the Christians in Taiwan are educated and they are more or less comfortable speaking Mandarin. Christians in the working class section are less educated than others. They are mostly comfortable in speaking Mandarin and moreover they are not open up to outside ideas. These people are unable to reach to the churches. These Christians from the working class section are separated from the rest of the Christians in terms of social, economic, language factors. The local church leaders of many churches confess that they are unable to reach to these people and they do not know how to reach the Christians from the working class.
Christian Taiwanese actively takes part in the ministry, shares the Gospel, trains leaders and produces literature.
Though Christians in Taiwan belong to the minority group but they deeply feel for Taiwan's future.
