The plot of the story is Ling and Sheng are twin brothers. Ling is cruel and careless, loves racing motorcycles while Sheng hides his emotions in drawings. Sheng is opposite of his brother. Sheng is very reserved and quiet by nature. After the death of their mother the brothers had shared an independent relationship. When a girl named Shai Zhi came into their lives both brothers developed feelings for her. This resulted in the end of the relationship between the two brothers. Sheng committed suicide when he came to know that Shai Zhi loved his brother Ling. Ling holds himself guilty for his brother's death and he had to undergo a therapy for two years at an mental asylum. Ling afterwards fell in love with another girl named Qi Luo. Ling and Qi Luo felt that they can come out of the past tragedies and can rebuild their lives again.
Mars is based on themes like suicidal, sexual harassment, murder, mental illness but at the end there underlies a sense of hope. Mars is a phenomenal television series for its excellent star cast, direction style, soundtrack etc.
