World War II was the amalgamation of two conflicts, one in Asia as the second Sino Japanese War and the other in Europe with the invasion of Poland.
These worldwide military conflicts lasted from 1930 to 1945. This global war separated the worldwide nations into two opposing camps: the Allies and Axis. The result of this massive War was the death of over 60 million people making it the deadliest conflict in human history. This War involved more than 100 million military personnel and nearly two thirds of those killed in the war were civilians. The conflict ended in massive devastation. Almost 40 million civilians died out of disease, starvation and genocide. Of the total deaths in World War II approximately 85%were on the Allied side and 15% on Axis side.
From 1945-1951, German and Japanese officials and personnel were prosecuted of war crimes. Many senior German officials were tried at the Nuremberg Trials and the Japanese officials at the Tokyo War Crime Trial and other War crime Trials in the Asia Pacific region. A large portion of the old political and economic structure lay in ruins. All the nations involved lay prostrate, the wealth accumulated washed out and their productive resources ravaged their trade links. The effects of war spread far beyond the battlefields. Both physical violence and economic requirements changed the relationship between the nations.
World War II still affects the world affairs in the contemporary period. The success of recovering from this massacre may prove to be an unparallel affair in human history.
