Hong Kong took great interest in Taiwan's March, 2000 Presidential election which was the common theme for Hong Kong media editorials. Both the Democratic Party and the Liberal Party called for the resumption of Cross Strait dialog and negotiation that would ultimately lead to peace and reunification through proper discussions. This policy also emphasizes the involvement of media, cultural and other social exchanges between Taiwan and Hong Kong. The character is actually of a quasi international economic entity.
In recent years Taiwan's efforts to promote exchanges with Hong Kong through non governmental organizations have already marked outstanding results. Hong Kong's professionals and academics have gained a better understanding of Taiwan and their new government would likely continue such work and the chosen representatives will very likely be dispatched to Hong Kong for further communication and mutual understanding.
Hong Kong - Taiwan relations have shown positive results since years that may go on with economic development if their mutual understanding and belief holds back the tradition.
