Lebanon And Syria

Lebanon and Syria has been under critical situation for years. Syria dominated Lebanon for nearly three decades. But in 2005, it was forced to withdraw its thousands of troops from the neighboring country.

A hostile allegation that Damascus played a role in the assassination of former premier Rafik Hariri was denied by Syria. The complex relationship between Syria and Lebanon is the political pivot of the Middle East. The event has been in the headlines since the detachment of French colonial forces from the Levant in 1943.

One of the great contradictions in this relationship is how two such very much varied political systems emerged. Syrian and Lebanese people see the society in a very different way. At the time of independence, it was assumed that only the divide-and-rule policies of foreign powers kept the Arab peoples forcefully separated. Syria and Lebanon became more divided, rather than more integrated in the post-independence period despite of the prevalence of Arab nationalism and the regression of imperial interference.

Syria commands Lebanon's international policy and has effectively occupied large sections of its smaller neighbor since 30 years. There are presently some 15,000 Syrian troops still in Lebanon, and Hezbollah--a militant Shiite group, which is supported by Syria and Iran that has long controlled in southern Lebanon. The United States has repeatedly ordered that Syria withdraw its troops from Lebanese politics.

The killing has looked up to both national and international attention on the Syrian occupation. A deep rooted feeling of anti-Syrian has been created in Lebanon. Thousands of mourners at Hariri's Beirut funeral February 15 called for Syria to leave Lebanon. Angry mobs assaulted Baath Party headquarters in Beirut.

The Lebanon - Syria in spite of having a good relation, dropped down their images towards each other that can be hope to mend up with some other issue.
