Safita Syria

Safita Syria is a city in north-western part of the country, located in southeast Tartous and northwest Krak des Chevaliers. Positioned geographically on three hilltops with lush green valleys between them, Safita Syria is a part of the Syrian costal mountain ranges. With a present population of 33,000 approximately, the city had significant roles to play during the Crusades. In early times, the land was dwelled by the Knights Templar, belonging to the Chastel Blanc palace of Tripoli County.

Since the ages of Phoenicians, Safita Syria witnessed tribal settlements like Canaanites and the Phoenicians. In 1102, Raymond IV of Toulouse began occupying the landed properties of Tripoli’s Banu Ammars Emirs. The seizure of the lands continued for a period of four years, within which Raymond IV gained complete control of the city and its surrounding areas.

It was during this period that “Chastel Blanc” or the “'the White Tower” was constructed in Safita Syria by the Knights Templar as prior fortifications against the Crusades. Constructed at a central point on top of the three hills, it offered an overall view of the surrounding regions from an elevation of 300 and 400 meters, so as to trace any possibilities unknown attack on the land.

Today, Safita in Syria is a principal municipal region within the Tartus territory. With as many as 30,000 dwellers, the population is evenly distributed among 89 villages and 49 surrounding settlements. The overall climatic condition of the country makes living satisfying and enjoyable. The pleasant weather of Safita in Syria is identified by four distinct seasons. During summer, the land experiences sufficient humidity with temperatures around 37 ºC, and annual rainfall varying between 1200 to 1500 mm. Winter is pretty cold here, with temperature occasionally falling below 0 ºC. Together with a peaceful and stable political condition, Safita on Syrian Mainland is worth living.
