George Wassouf is the famous Syrian singer who migrated to Beirut in Lebanon at a very young age. In the year of 1961 on December 23, George Wassouf was born in Kafroun, Homs in Syria. From the young age he was a talented singer. When he migrated to Lebanon with his family, he was granted the Lebanese citizenship. Owing to his artistic talent in singing, George Wassouf was considered a miraculous child.
Even at the tender age of 10, George Wassouf sang miraculous songs in his hometown Kafroun. He was asked to sing in social functions like marriage functions, hotel inaugurations, etc. But he started his musical career seriously when he moved to Lebanon. His command on the Arabic music earned him lots of popularity. At such a tender age of 16, George Wassouf earned the title of 'Sultan El-Tarab' ('The Sultan of Music' in the English language)from the renowned international actor Omar Sharif. George Wassouf was bestowed on such an honor for his classical song 'el Hawa Sultan'.
A few of the wide variety of songs by George Wassouf include 'Rohi ya Nesmah', 'Hawa Sultan', 'Law Naweit', 'Helif el-Amar'. The people of the Arabic world thought of him as the miraculous child when he sang classical Arab songs with perfection as such a young age. They thought that George Wassouf was the only singer who could provide 'tarab' with his crystal and magical voice quality.
Under his belt, George Wassouf has 30 best selling albums. Recently on June 2002 , Sultan Al Tarab released his album "Salaf Wi Dein". It made a grand success in both the Arab world and abroad.
