Brig

The ancient European crossroad where the Simplon Pass bisects the high Alps into Italy is the point where the picture like town of Brig, Switzerland is located. Brig or French Brigue is the capital of the District of Brig and the Valasi Canton. Brig, Switzerland got its name from Briva, meaning a bridge. The place is famous for its architectural splendors including the Stockalper Castle Palace which has an onion-domed tower and a galleried courtyard. The town houses a pedestrian center in the old town which is clustered with shops and restaurants.

Situated close to the Swiss Italian border, Brig, Switzerland enjoys a locational advantage. It is the conjunction point of major roads and rail routes. Language spoken here is an unique German dialect known as 'Swiss German'. Everyday transactions are done in this language and are unique to this Canton. Brig, Switzerland is also a favorite venue for enjoyable sports mainly winter sports, specially skiing and there are a dozens of ski centers. Surrounded by a number of Alps summits it is a natural favorites of the athletes. The Rhone River lies close to the town.

The altitude in which Brig, Switzerland is located is quite high and naturally the winters are cold. In winters temperature often remains below zero and the weather is frosty. However, in the summers heat can be intense.
