Swedish Weaving is also known as Huck Weaving. The other names used for Swedish weaving are huck embroidery, huckaback darning and punto yugoslavo. Swedish weaving is basically the exclusive art of surface embroidery. In Swedish weaving method the floss is woven under the top threads of the dress mnaterial. The floss does not penetrate to the other side of the fabric. The basic material required in Swedish weaving is the Monk's Cloth. Swedish weaving on the Monk's cloth is used as pillow, baby blanket etc. Other materials that are used in Swedish weaving are the Aida cloth or pre-finished items. Apart from this the other items required for Swedish Weaving are 4-ply yarn, pattern, scissors and needle.
Swedish weaving was quiet popular among people in the 1930s and 1940s. During this period many new designs came up which were exclusively meant for and applied to Swedish weaving. Swedish weaving on the Monk's cloth are often done based on these designs.
The size and the number of needle varies with the number of floats in the Monk's Cloth. Needle size of number 16 or 13 can be used for swedish weaving on Monk's cloth with 4 floats. Blunt needles can be used for doing swedish weaving on smaller fabrics.
