Stockholm University is a center for higher education and research. Located in the capital city of Sweden, Stockholm University is a leading educational Institution of the region. With over 39 000 students and 4 600 employees, the Stockholm University is one of the largest Universities in the whole of Sweden and is well known for its academic excellence and research works. The Stockholm University began at Stockholm's Högskola on a small scale in the year 1878. In the initial years the University held only a series of lectures in mathematics, physics, chemistry and geology. In the year 1904 Stockholm University acquired the right to grant degrees. The Stockholm University was shift to Frescati, just north of the city in the year 1970.
The Stockholm University is well known for most of its departments and faculties and many well known scholars are known to have done their research in this Swedish University. Presently, the Stockholm University has about seventy five departments and centers. The most important faculties at the Stockholm University includes:

Recently the Stockholm University has become a part of the "University of the Arctic" network. This is a co- operative network including universities, colleges, and other organizations committed to higher education and research.
