With a population of around102,257 inhabitants, Lund is located in the Southern part of Sweden. Founded around the year 990, Lund is the seat of the Lund Municipality in Skåne County. The ancient city of Lund had been in existence ever since the Scanian lands were under Danish control. With time Lund became the Christian center of Northern Europe and the Lund Church still is a site of much religious importance. Back in the year 990 the village of Uppåkra was moved to the location of Lund by King Sweyn I Forkbeard due to security reasons. Thus the Swedish town of Lund has a long and ancient history.
Lund is located very near to the sandy shore of the Öresund Straits but is quite a distance from the other important Swedish towns like Gothenburg, Stockholm and Umeå. The largest agricultural district of Sweden, Lund is covered by extensive forest, mainly deciduous trees. This somewhat secluded and green surroundings of Lund is the main feature that attracts the tourists.
Reaching the Swedish town of Lund is not a problem as the town is located very close to the Malmö-Sturup Airport. However, this Airport is used for domestic flights and Kastrup the Airport outside Copenhagen which is located at a distance of 45 minutes from Lund is used for major International flights. Hasslanda Flygfält in the northern area of Lund is also a small Airport of the region but it is mainly used for private and chartered flights.
