Karlstad

Karlstad is a Swedish city in Värmland and has an estimated population of around 86,000. It is also the seat of Karlstad Municipality and the capital of Värmland County. Karlstad is quite popular for its University and a Cathedral.

The Swedish city of Karlstad is been nestled on the islands and islets that together make up the river delta on the northern shore of Vänern, the largest lake of Sweden. It has the 2nd biggest lake port in the country after Västerås.

On Karlstad's biggest islet, there was a place of counsel popularly known as Tingvalla in the medieval age. It had roots from the Viking Age before 1000 AD and was also used to be a shopping square.

On 5th March, 1584 Karlstad got recognition as a city by the Swedish Duke Charles, who afterwards became King Charles IX of Sweden. The name of this city has been originated from the King - Karlstad that literally means Karl's city. The Duke also made it a governmental seat in the region, and gave it an ample amount of land.

Sports activities and recreational resources of Karlstad, the city of sunshine are quite appreciable. While talking about the games section we should definitely mention the Ice hockey team Färjestads BK that has won the Swedish Championship several times.

Apart from this, in 2000, Boltic-Göta is a club that has been formed by the merger of two of the historically most known bandy clubs in Sweden, IF Boltic and IF Karlstad-Göta. Aside this fishing and water sports are considered to be among the other most-participated activities.
