Suriname Waterways

Suriname waterways is another important part of the transportation system of this country. There are railways, surface transportation system that includes bus and cab services and also airways apart from the water ways in Suriname. The rivers and coastal areas are used mainly for the waterways. Suriname has almost 1200 kilometer waterways that is navigable. Some of these are, Albina, Moengo, Paramaribo, Paranam, Wageningen etc. Among these, Paramaribo, which is the capital of this country, is also the principal port of Suriname. Many big sea going vessels can navigate through these waterways in Suriname. In fact, the waterways are one of the major transportation system in Suriname.

Paramaribo port, which is the principal port of Suriname, is administered by NV Havenbeheer Suriname. This port, though the most important port in Suriname, is a middle sized port here. Paramaribo port in Suriname is a river port and its office address is, Van 't Hogerhuysstraat, Paramaribo, Suriname. Another important port in Suriname is Nieuw Nickerie. This is a small sized river port in Suriname and is located in Paramaribo.
