Suriname

Suriname is a South American country. Officially it is known as Republic of Suriname. Initially Suriname was known as Netherlands Guiana or Dutch Guiana. Suriname lies on the west of Guyana, east of French Guiana and south of Brazil. It is nearly one tenth times larger in size than Michigan. The capital of Surinam is Paramaribo. Suriname follows a constitutional democracy type of government. History of Suriname shows that Suriname was first inhabited by the Surinen Indians after whom the country was named. South American Indians came to Surinam in around 16th century and the Spanish conquerors arrived around 1593 and successively the Dutch came by 1602.

Suriname is the smallest of the South American countries and geographically it is divided into two regions. One is the Northern, lowland coastal area where majority of population thrives and the other is southern zone of Tropical Rain forest and its sparsely inhabited.

Suriname facts say that it has rich wild life and the weather condition of Suriname is tropical as it lies near to the equator and temperature variation is seen throughout the year. Suriname is the smallest but one of the Independent nations of South America and has left its footprint very well in the global arena.
