Suriname flag contains five equal bands horizontally placed and in the center a five-pointed star is present. Suriname flag facts depicts that the bands are all colored and they are in the sequence of green, white, red , white and green respectively. The star in the middle is colored yellow and one arm is facing upwardly whereas two arms face downward. The colors used in the flag has there own significance. The white stripes depict peace and justice and the red stripes focuses on the love and progress of the nation. The yellow colored star represents a promising golden future of the Suriname nation. The five arms of the star represent the ethnic communities of the Suriname and they are respectively The Creole, Hindus, The Native Americans, The Chinese and the Europeans.
The present Flag of Suriname was established in 25th November 1975 by the Decree of the Governor General. The height and length of the Suriname flag is in the proportion of 2:3 respectively. The designer of the Suriname flag is Jacques Herman Pinas and it is rectangular shaped.
The Coat of arms of the Suriname flag has the pictorial representation of two Indian holding the shield and below them it is quoted in “Justitia Pietas Fides” and this means “Justice Faith Loyalty”. The shield has a sailing boat in white color on the left side and it's the depiction of the past when the African slaves were brought to Suriname. The right side has a palm tree and it represents the present along with justice The diamond is located at the middle and it symbolizes a hart and the five sided star represents the five continents of the inhabitants who settled in the Suriname.
The Suriname flag is designed in a very proper way and the flag itself speaks about the Suriname past and the present.
