Kajana

Kajana is a city of Suriname. It is a well-developed place with school, clinic. This urban area has got different facilities. People are quite respectful to their tradition. The past of this place is not a forgotten thing but a living history. People still apply traditional techniques in their life.

Located in the Saramaccan district Kajana is one of the main place where people have access to the modern amenities. Kajana of Suriname is famous for the Sangaafu clinic. The clinic is named after a tree that is very commonly used among the Saramaccan communities. It is mainly used for medical purpose. Before hunting they smear it on their body. They also use it to protect their home from evil. Since 2004 the clinic in Kajana has been operational. Many of the healers of the clinic are women.

Another clinic is under construction. All these efforts come under ACT's Suriname programme. Being a well-developed city, Kajana also holds a school. Some agricultural projects are also running in Kajana.

Kajana is located in the along the Gran Rio river. Therefore the city often face a serious problem of flood. However the prolific beauty and the purity of the place is never taken away bu these natural disasters. The people are peace loving. Thus like many of the other Cities of Suriname, Kajana remains a peaceful small place with all its beautiful aspects.
