Groningen

Most of Suriname, in South America is under the cover of rainforests. Engulfed in a natural abundance, Suriname has several major cities. One of the largest and most significant cities is Groningen. The city represents the culture and the natural beauty of Suriname. It can be said that Groningen combines nature with an urban civilization.

Lying in the district of Saramaca in Suriname, Groningen is close to a number of large South American cities like Boa Vista do Rio Branco(Brazil), Guyana City(Venezuela), Angostura(Venezuela), Manaus(Brazil) and Ananindeua (Brazil). It is the capital town of the Saramaca district.

Groningen city falls in the time zone of Suriname Time. The geographical position of Groningen is determined by its latitude and longitude which are 5°47'60?N, 55°28'0?W respectively. A person residing in Groningen is called a Surinamer. Groningen has Surinamese guilder (SRG) as its national currency. Suriname was a Dutch colony and therefore Dutch is the major language of the city of Groningen. It is the most widely spoken and the official language of Groningen.

To reach Groningen, Suriname one has to take a flight to Paramaribo or Zandery where the airports are located. These airports are the nearest to Groningen. There are no direct flights to Groningen. While in the city a visitor can avail the public transport to move around the city or can contact a travel operator or tour agency for visiting the tourist attractions in and near Groningen.

Suriname is a tropical country and the weather conditions in Groningen is typical to a tropical region. Temperatures remain high but not very high. Rain falls almost throughout the year.
