Located in Marowijne of East Suriname the city of Albina is the capital of this district. It is a thriving city with 4200 population. The latitude of the city is 5,50000 N and the longitude is 54,05000 W. Marowijne river constitutes the border with French Guiana in the western part. This place can be reached by air or road.
A great part of the area including the road of Albina was destroyed because of the war in the second half of th 1980s. During the Maroon rebellions in the 1980 – 1990s much of the city was destroyed. Albina can be reached by bus from Paramaribo, which is about 150 km from the city. It has a small boat connection to Galibi.
Among the Cities of Suriname, Albina is an interesting place to visit because of the habitat of the elusive Geophagus harreri. Most of the population is made up of descendants of Southeast Asian and Indians. Artistic touch can be found in each of the local products. The people are very friendly.
In the brackish water around Albina you can find a number of unidentified fishes. The oceans and tide shave great influence in the life of local people.
