The Spanish group of world heritage cities comprises of eight monumental features .They are Ávila, Córdoba, Cuenca, Cáceres,Salamanca, Segovia, Santiago de Compostela and Toledo .Spain is the only country which has so many heritage sites in its cities. All the heritage sites have been combined to form a group which represents the country's unity and strength. The country has also joined these monuments under one roof with the purpose of initiating the growth of tourism.
Avila
Avila has acquired the title of world heritage city due to the large number of Renaissance churches and palaces. The palace of Valderrabano, Mansion of Velada, Cathedral, City Hall has added to the beauty of the city. A wall surrounds the historic site. The wall has more than 2500 crenellations .It has hundred towers six gates and three openings. The plaza de los Davila is also an important feature of the city of Avila.
Cordoba
This city has also been included in the list of world heritage site due to its inheritance of the varied culture which is distributed throughout the city. Seneca, Averroes and Maimonides took birth in this very city. The mosque cathedral is the marked feature of the city. A number of Flamenco festivals, concerts and ballets have made the city's culture rich.
Caceres
This world heritage city comprises of ten towers, Renaissance palace and fortified homes. All the towers are surrounded by Arab wall. The plaza de Santa María has spectacular beauty.
Cuenca
This has earned the title of world heritage city because of the presence of Arab castle and fortress of Kunka.
Santiago De Compostela
The pilgrim road to Santiago is very important to the pilgrims who come from all over Europe. The cathedral, Baroque façade and Romanesque doorway and the Obradorio are also the important features.
Salamanca The churches, palaces and ancestral homes have earned it the name of the world heritage site.
Toledo
The monuments of the Christian, Arabic and Jewish culture in Toledo reflect the varied culture of Spain. These heritage cities are the assets of Spain.
