Public holiday in Spain
are a combination of regional and national holidays. The municipalities are given the right to announce 14
public holidays . These 14 holidays include 9 chosen by the government and two by the regions.
By chance if one of the nine holidays coincides with Sunday then the regions can choose their own week days for holiday. Most of the banks, shops and museums should be closed on these public holidays . But hospitals and emergency services should be open on the public holidays. Taxis can charge more fare on the public holidays . Sometimes when a public holiday falls on Thursday or Tuesday common people just take it on Friday or Monday to have an extended holiday. In such cases we find that businesses are run on short period or closed.
