As shown in the map, the Canaries is a long chain of islands forming the outermost region of the European Union. The islands are: Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, La Palma, La Gomera, El Hierro, La Graciosa, Alegranza, Isla de Lobos, Montana Clara, Roque del Este and Roque del Oeste.
The Canaries Political Map also shows the major cities, road routes, highways, airports, and rivers. The major airports are: La Palma Airport, Gran Canaria Airport, Gomera Airport, El Hierro Airport, Tenerife South Airport, Fuerteventura Airport, and Lanzarote Airport.
Though the islands are geographically part of the African continent, they are legally recognized as an autonomous community of Spain.
The Canary Islands comprises two provinces, Las Palmas and Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The capitals of the provinces are Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Santa Cruz respectively. The capital cities of the two provinces are also the national capital of the island as a whole.
The Islands make up for thirteen seats in the Spanish Senate. The President is the head of government. Paulino Rivero is the current President of the Canary Islands.
