North Korea came into existence formally after August 15 in the year 1948. Till 1945, Korea was a single unit with no division between the North Korea and South Korea. Even after their division, there was little peace in both the halves. Korean war erupted in 1950 that turned a tragic one for both the ends. In the Korean War that continued from 1950 to 1953, North Korea was aided by the then Soviet Union while South Korea was helped by United States of America. There was a continuous tension between these two neighboring countries for long. At last in 1991, with the declaration sign of non-aggression and reconciliation by the Prime Ministers of both countries, peace resulted to an extent.
There have been a few economic ties between North Korea and South Korea. One of these ties is the Kaesong Industrial Complex (KIC). Since 2003, the KIC has developed to include quite a big number of South Korean companies operating for the sake of the North-South cooperation project. But the North Korea nuclear testing in October 2006 put a little halt in this project. New investments were suspended following the nuclear testing of North Korea.
The economic cooperation project also include the growth of tourism in North Korea. Tours were organized to Mt. Kumgang since 1998. this step has helped the North Korea Tourism since a million tourists have visited Mt. Kumgang since then.
The two way trade has started operating between North Korea and South Korea. It was legalized in 1988. This footstep has helped them earn an additional revenue of $1.35 billion in 2006. The cordial relation between these two halves has brought a huge relief in the minds of the citizens of both countries.
