The South Korea Prime Minister is not elected by the general citizens of South Korea but by the President of South Korea who was in turn elected democratically. But the Prime Minister should also be confirmed by the South Korean National Assembly to be recognized as the official Prime Minister. If the National Assembly does not confirm the Prime Minister elected solely by the President of South Korea, the Prime Minister will get the approval to work merely as the acting Prime Minister of South Korea.
Since the Government type of South Korea is Republican, the Prime Minister of South Korea does not need to be a member of the South Korean Parliament. The Prime Minister is allocated the responsibilities of assisting the South Korea President alongside the supervision of ministries. The South Korea Prime Minister also takes the responsibility to recommend the name of ministers. According to the South Korea Constitution, the Prime Minister comes first in the order of succession to take the charge of the South Korea President in case the President is unable to discharge his office. The last Prime Minister of South Korea who served as an acting President was Goh Kun when the then President Roh Moo-hyun was subjected to the impeachment trial in 2004.
The current Prime Minister of South Korea is Han Duck-soo. He took over the last Prime Minister Han Myeong-sook after she resigned on 7th March in the year of 2007. The position of the Prime Minister of South Korea was formed in August 1948 with the independence of South Korea. The first Prime Minister of South Korea was Lee Bum who worked till 1950.
