Unlike North Korea, there was no South Korea Leader to take up the responsibility of the infant State immediately after its inception. With the end of the Second World War, the Potsdam Conference of 1945 decided on dividing Korea along the 38th Parallel. After the division North Korea was safe in the hands of Kim Il Sung who acted as a responsible North Korea Leader guiding his country on the path of Communism. However, there was no South Korea Leader to do the same for the Southern part. With North Korea taking up the scepter of Communism, Democratic elections were held only to choose a South Korea Leader. Syngman Rhee was the new South Korea Leader and President who was to serve the Republican country.
However, Syngman Rhee failed to prove himself to be a competent South Korea Leader and was soon displaced from his position. It was not until the tenure of Kim Dae- Jung that a popular and efficient South Korea Leader was found. It was Kim Dae- Jung who proved to be a true South Korea Leader and led his country towards development. This South Korea Leader had assumed his office amidst a cancerous Economic Crisis. In such a situation Kim Dae- Jung initiated certain Economic Reforms and took assistance from the International Monetary Fund thus altering the scenario of South Korean Economy.
The great South Korea Leader Kim Dae- Jung was awarded the Noble Peace Prize in the year 2000. Often referred to as the “Nelson Mandela of Asia”, Kim Dae- Jung stood strong against the authoritarian rule that prevailed before him. It was due to the efforts of this South Korea Leader that the region became a part of the World Democracies and witnessed internal reconciliation.
