Korea Society organizes different programs in order to discuss different topics of interest for both the countries. This includes education, business, arts, inter cultural relations. The foundation stone of the
Korean Society was laid down by General James A Van Fleet in the year 1957. The
Korea Society was first founded in the United States as an non profitable organization. The main purpose of the organization was to develop friendly relations between both the countries.
The funds of the
Korea Society are raised from program fees, dues of membership, grants from foundation and from other contributions. US Korea Foundation which is based in DC and New York based US Korea Society merged in June 1993 to form Korea Society. Different distinguished personalities from the field of profession, business, academics comprise the board of directors of the society.
Every year
Korea Society gives James A Van Fleet Award to a distinguished American or Korean for their contributions in promoting healthy relationships between both the countries. In the field of Korea and US relations this award is very significant. The Korea Society in the year 2006 became the official coordinating body for New York Korean Film festival.
Korea Society plays an important role in developing the relationships between the people of both the countries.
