South Korea Capital

As the South Korea Capital, Seoul is also the largest city, situated on the northwestern shores of River Han. Located about 30 miles to the south of the North Korean borders, the city is also identified as the de-militarized center of the Korean mainland.

The historical details of Seoul as South Korean Capital traces back as early as the 18 B.C.E., when it was founded as the capital city of Baekje Kingdom. In fact, this South Korea Capital had been the capital of a number of Korean states at different times. During the Goryeo Dynasty, it was known as 'Hanseong". Then it became the permanent capital under the Joseon Dynasty of rulers. However, the city was completely ruined at the time of Japanese invasion and colonization on the Korean mainland. Re-structured shortly after that, it once again underwent complete devastation during the 1945 Korean War, which divided the Korean mainland into two distinct north and south divisions. Subsequently, Seoul took sometime to regain its present position and global status.

Covering a total land area of 605.52 km², Seoul in South Korea is segregated in more or less two unequal divisions by the River Han. Surrounded by eight mountains, the plain lands of the city are mainly contributions from the Han River basin.

Compared with the rest of the South Korean climatic conditions, the climate of Seoul is more or less temperate and continental in nature, despite the fact that the country is surrounded by oceans on all three sides. The summer heat (average temperature varying between 22 °C to 30 °C) is brought down comparatively by the advent of the monsoons between June to September. Winter in Seoul is characterized by dry and cold atmosphere, with sharp drop in temperature occasionally.

Almost all people in Seoul are Koreans, with a handful of foreigners like Japanese and Chinese on minority levels. The present figure shows that as many as 200,000 foreigners reside only in Seoul, making it on of the highest populated South Korean cities. Presence of a number of schools and renowned international universities in the city impart comprehensive and high-quality education to both native and foreign inhabitants on the land, which later find apt reflections in the industrial and economic affluences of Seoul. In fact, the electronic industries in Seoul have already gained immense worldwide accreditations ever since its inception.

Together with a sound cultural background, especially with respect to sports activities, architecture and other outdoor tourist attractions, Seoul as South Korean Capital is one of the most popular and frequented cities of the Korean nation.
