Machu Picchu

The ancient Inca civilization had created this primeval city of Machu Picchu. The exotic gorgeous city at a height of 2,430 meters above the level of the sea is one of the most famous tourist’s destinations in the world. The city is also of huge archeological significance. The ruins of Machu Picchu are also sometimes called the ‘Lost city of the Incas’. The extraordinary engineering involved in the creation of this city is the reason of its fame. Machu Picchu is also designated as a world heritage site by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.

The ancient city of Machu Picchu is located near Cusco in Peru. This site is positioned beautifully on the slopes of Andes Mountains in the province of Urumba. The latitude and longitude of this city is 13o South and 72o West respectively. Machu Picchu in Peru was declared a historic sanctuary in 1981 by the government of Peru after 70 years of its rediscovery Hiram Bingham who was an eminent archeologist.

Machu Picchu tours are arranged by a number of travel agents. A two nights and three days tour to this spot are most popular among the tourists. The trips are mostly arranged from the city of Cusco which falls nearby. Inti Raymi festival of the sun is a preferable time for a travel to Machu Picchu. Sightseeing for a day can also be opted in this site and for a full day the rates will range from 30USD to 85USD. A train to Machu Picchu takes about three hours from the city of Cusco and the services are very frequent and convenient.
