El Salvador and US free trade deal news:
El Salvador joined the US free trade pact from 1 March. Though the agreement was passed by the El Salvador Congress it was delayed for substantial time due to legal problems. This treaty is supposed to bring in economic development in El Salvador. The decision was carried on by President George W Bush and Antonio Saca of El Salvador.
El Salvador volcano causes chaos:
Recently the Santa Ana volcano, which was dormant since 1904, erupted causing the deaths and injury of substantial number of people. According to the scientists Ilamatepec comprised spat rocks 1.5 km from the crater. It was situated in 2381 meters from sea level. Boiling mud and water, huge lava rocks, clouds of smoke containing sulfur and ash were seen to be thrown out by the Ilamatepec, already 30families have been reported to have left the nearby places.
Coffee 'may save' El Salvador wildlife
It is said that the high altitude coffee plantations are seen to protect the ecosystem of El Salvador wildlife. The coffee plantations require the cover of tall trees for its growth and development. According to Chris Wille of the Rainforest Alliance, a US-based non-government organization coffee plantation 10-15% of original native ecosystems is sheltered with coffee plantation. Coffee plantation is helping in soil conservation and providing firewood to the residents.
