Panama Education is free and mandatory for the children of age group between 6 and 15. The period of primary Education in Panama is 6 years and the period of secondary education is 3 years.

During the year 1996 Panama had 2,849 primary schools. 221,022 students were recruited in the secondary schools of Panama during the year 1996.

In the year 1999, 98 % children were recruited in the primary school of Panama and 61 % children were recruited in secondary school.

The University of Panama was established in the year 1935. During the year 1965 in the month of May Universidad Santa Maria La Antigua was established with a recruitment of 233 students.

The Adult Literacy Rate in Panama in the year 1960 was 27 %. During 1970 the adult literacy rate deteriorated by 8 % in Panama.
