Education in Honduras

Honduras Education includes a wide range of schools, colleges and universities in Honduras. Before the 1957 reforms Honduras Education was exclusively
taken by those who could send their ward to the private institutions of Honduras.

During the year 2000 the Literacy Rate in Honduras was 27.8 %.

Among Honduras Education public education is free and mandatory for the children of age group between 7 to 13 in primary school and for the age group of 14 to 19 in the secondary school of Honduras.

1,032,595 students were recruited in primary schools and 169,430 students were recruited in secondary schools during the year 1998. The period of education in primary schools of Honduras is 6 years and the period of education in secondary schools are 5 years.

National Autonomous University of Honduras was established at Tegucigalpa during the year 1847.
