South Africa Radio is one of the strongest broadcasting channels of South Africa. South Africa Radio is the link between the people and its government as well as a communication tool. But still it would be wrong to think of South Africa Radio as merely a mouthpiece of the South African government because it gives due impartial hearing to both parties in the issue.
Radio in South Africa has come a long way from providing government circulars a wider circulation to providing modern entertainment and information about topical issues. With approximately 10-million radio sets in South Africa and listeners many times that number, South African radio broadcasts community news and information in the deep rural areas along with a huge assortment of programming from ultra-hip urban music to lifestyle shows.
Radio of South Africa can be divided into three comprehensive groups public service radio, commercial radio stations and community radio stations. Each has its own distinct functions and broadcasting niche. The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) is the public service broadcaster of the country with broadcasting in English. The other National broadcasters are Channel Africa, which broadcasts in six languages and SA FM which is again an English channel.
South Africa Radio also has a foreign channel, South Africa FM which of course broadcasts in English.
South Africa Radio thus is the window of the world for South Africa.
