History of Constitution of South Africa
1996 Constitution of South Africa was adopted when the Constitutional Court of South Africa ordered the interim constitution, the Parliament to produce a new constitution. The constitutional court ruled out the text adopted by May 1996 Constitutional Assembly. The Constitutional Assembly hence amended the constitutional text of May 1996 and the reconsidered text was adopted on 11 October, 1996. The adopted text came into effect from 4 February 1996.
