Somali People




The Somali people occupy the lands of Somali, in the Horn of Africa, which runs in line with the Gulf of Aden and also the Indian Ocean. The Somali people in actuality constitute the major ethnic race in Somali, which accounts for about 85 % of the population. The Somali people are also popularly known as the Somalis.

There are other races as well throughout the length and breadth of the country, that includes the Bantus and the Arabs. The Somali people speak in the Somali language, which assumes the primary position in the country as its official language. Apart from this the Somali people are open to the presence of other languages as well, like Arabic, Italian and English. Thus the languages spoken by the Somali people are Afro-Asiatic in general. This shows the monumental impact of various foreign languages and cultures on the Somali people, thereby affecting the culture of Somalia.

Somali People History
The Somali people have their roots in the Samaale group who live in the north. As it is known that the majority of the population is Somali people, the remainder is filled in by the Sab or to be specific, the southern Somali people.

The Somali people immerse themselves in the unanimous belief that they are descendants of one ancestor, who had to sons, namely Somali and Sab.
