Media Slovenia has emerged as one of the country's strongest image builders since the independence of the nation. Media in Slovenia is assured of freedom in print and other technologies by the Constitution of the country. Media of Slovenia has proved itself capable of forming public opinion and also being a neutral and impartial reporter of news across the world. It is the Slovene media, which has been largely responsible for the recognition gained by Slovenia through out the world.
The media in Slovenia has eight serious national dailies among about 968 print media entities. The number of television channels serving Slovenia are about 50 with a hundred radio stations complementing them. But it is actually the Internet which has shown the maximum growth in this Balkan country. Due to the burgeoning growth of use of the Internet in education - about 97% use in the primary level with 100% usage in post primary higher studies - it has infiltrated even the Slovene households. About half the households have Internet connections which are ably exploited for daily and occasional news and entertainment.
The national TV and radio are completely privatized except for RTV which is a public owned institution. The electronic media is commercially very viable with all channels competing for the Slovenia media market.
