Banska Bystrica Slovakia

Situated at the center of Slovakia, Banska Bystrica Slovakia is one of the largest Slovak cities. An impressive town center in the city of Banska Bystrica showcases the rich and delightful architecture of Slovakia. Like in several other cities and towns in Slovakia, the town center is a 'walking zone" without any traffic.

Banska Bystrica Slovakia is a true representation of the country with its Old Town evoking a historic charm, with mountains surrounding the city and with a rich history. The Slovak National Uprising Square (SNP) in Banska Bystrica in Slovakia retains this name unlike most of the other cities and it is the biggest in Banska Bystrica.

The SNP Museum a little further from the Square reflects the controversial participation of Slovakia in the Second World War. In the Square is a splendid pedestrian zone lined with magnificent historical buildings. The Town clock Tower gives a good view of the area.

The Stefan Moyzes Square in Banska Bystrica consists of significant historical sites such as the Church of Virgin Mary which is the oldest structure of the town with a red and beige spire as its crest. The Church of Holy Cross is another major tourist attraction though it is in a sorry state. The Matthias House lying across the street has a getaway that brings a tourist to a small cemetery, a haven of peace in the midst of a bust city. From there the sole remnant of the castle complex, the fortress bastion can be seen.

Other places of interest in Banska Bystrica are the Thurzo House comprising the Central Slovak Museum, a delightful fountain at the center of the SNP Square and a black obelisk that immortalizes the Red Army and the Rumanian army which freed Slovakia.
