The Prime Minister of Slovakia is the "head of the government" of the country and majority of the executive powers are handled by him. He is accountable to the National Council for all his actions. The Prime Minister of Slovakia is usually the leader of the majority party or the coalition in the Parliament and he is appointed by the President.
According to the constitution of Slovakia, the Prime Minister must be in the confidence of the Parliament. No sooner does the Prime Minister loses confidence, than the President has the right to dismiss him and appoint a new prime minister. He can also be removed if he is defeated by majority of the Parliamentary vote.
Although it is not the Prime Minister but the President who appoints Ministers in Cabinet, but he does it on the advice of the Prime Minister.

Iveta Radicova, the present prime minister belongs to the Slovak Democratic and Christian Union Democratic Party. The first female prime minister of Slovakia, Radicova assumed office on July 8, 2010.
