The Slovakia President represents the Slovakia internationally after the split of the Czech- Slovak since 1993. According to the Slovakian Constitutional laws of 1992 the parliament has the power to elect the President for 5 years along with three fifth majorities of all votes for five year term. The first president of Slovakia Government was Michal Kovac and during that period Vladimir Meciar was the leader of the movement for the Democratic Slovakia. The presidential term of the first President of Slovakia ended in March 1998 and during those days those days the task of electing the president was the responsibility of the Parliament.
From the elections held on September 1998, the new Prime Minister Mikulas Dzurinda change the scenario of the constitution and from that time the Slovakia President was elected by the two round systems by the citizens. The first direct election of President took place on May 1999 and that time none of the candidate obtained more than 50% votes of the required amount. In the first round Vladimir Meciar and Rudolf Schuster won the maximum votes but finally in the second round Rudolf Schuster won and he became the second Slovakia President.
The Slovakian President Ivan Gasparovic had put a lot of effort during his period and he highlighted a growing need of the economic co-operation between the Slovakia and Italy. Slovakia President Ivan Gasparovic has also pointed out the need to address the European Parliament and the national Parliament.
