Slovakia Currency



Slovakia currency is known as koruna. This currency is in circulation from the date when Slovakia gained its independence, which is from 1993. The meaning of this term is crown. Koruna is used in both coin and banknote forms. The international currency code of Slovakia koruna is SKK. Koruna was the Slovakia currency before independence also and during the Second World War There was a time when Slovakia koruna replaced the koruna of Czechoslovakia. But now, the Slovakia currency is its own koruna. Koruna is subdivided into hundred halierov.

Slovakia currency is found in both coin and banknote form. The coins of Slovakia koruna are of 1, 2, 5 and 10 koruna denominations. In the decoration of the coins on one part there is the coat of arms and on the opposite side there is some themes taken from the history of Slovakia. The denominations of the banknotes in present Slovakia are of 20,50,100,500,1000 and 5000 koruna. The themes of the banknotes are different from the coins. The banknotes depict historical people living in several places in Slovakia.

Slovakia is also a member of the EU and also the European Economic and Monetary Union. That is why; Slovakia has its Euro currency also. But this country cannot use Euro as its currency as it has not completed yet that third part that is EMU. Slovakia Euro has the Coat of Arms of the country on the coins. But for this design there was an official competition held in Slovakia.
