Slovakia bank and banking sector are under going a sharp reformation as the economy of the country is transforming from a centralized economy to market economy. At present, majority in the banking sector of Slovakia is privatized. As a result there are very few Governmental banks and the majority is privately owned banks. However, the banks that are dominating the banking sector in Slovakia, are, National Bank of Slovakia, Slovenska Sporitelna, Vceobecna Uverova Banka and Tatra Banka.
The National Bank of Slovakia is a member of EU and the European System of Central Bank. This bank represents Slovakia in international financial and monetary stages. The National Bank of Slovakia was established in the same year when Slovakia gained its independence that is in 1993. This bank is a totally independent institution and its main objective is to maintain stability in the price in Slovakia. The National Bank of Slovakia is the superior institution among all other banks in this country. This bank is administered by the Bank Board. The building in which this bank has its main office, is itself an attraction in Slovakia. The National Bank of Slovakia has its main office in the capital city of Bratislava.
All the other banks in Slovakia are also important institutions in the whole economic field of this country. At present with the privatization of banking sector, there are many foreign banks that are playing important role in the economy of Slovakia. They are holding the largest share of the market.
