Snowcat

Snowcat is a vehicle that helps to keep the pistes in perfect condition for skiing. It usually has a shape and size similar to that of a truck and is specially made to travel on snow. These vehicles have tracks set in pair on which the snowcat

moves. One of the earliest snowcats was made in Sweden. It was the Aktiv Snow Track which had 2265 models manufactured between 1957 and 1981. The name came from the trademark of 1946 used by the Tucker Sno-Cat Corporation based in Medford, Oregon, in the United States of America.

The snowcats have tracks, which are usually made of rubber or steel or even from aluminium. There are also rubber wheels which help to take the vehicle forward. Some of the snowcats also have a bit complex system of tracks with four or even more tracks rather than the common one of two tracks. A number of world famous companies have been engaged in the manufacture of snowcats since a long time. These include companies like Thiokol , Logan Machine Company and others.

The use of the snowcats has helped a lot in the improvement of the ski trails and the whole genre of snow sports as a whole. As a result, these have become an integral part of the world of skiing and other snow sports.
