Zakopane is regarded as the winter capital of Poland and the Tatra Mountains gate.
Zakopane hosts different skiing events during winter between December and March. During summer the place is also favored as a hiking spot by mountain lovers. This mountain resort has hosted the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships on three occasions in 1929, 1939 and 1962. World class ski slopes of the mountain at Zakopane have been attracting skiers of every caliber for a long time. The resort has also hosted Winter Universiades in 1956, 1993 and 2001, Biathlon World Championship, Ski Jump World Cups and other national and international skiing events and competitions.
The Zakopane ski resort encompasses 30 kilometers long ski trail and cross country trial of 50 kilometers length. The vertical drop of the trails at Zakopane is 929 meters. There are around 50 ski lifts, which are used for taking skiers up to the summit of the mountains. On some slopes, there is artificial snowing system, which enables skiers to practice the activity throughout the year. In the Zakopane resort, people can stay in hotels, apartments, guest houses, cabins and village cottages.
