Mount Hutt


Mount Hutt stands tall above the upper parts of the Rakaia River towards the west of Canterbury Plains in New Zealand with its summit at a height of 2190 metres.

The ski resort , with the largest skiable area in the South Island with 3.65 square kilometres hosts commercial alpine skiing. It is 683 metres high and has some advance ski runs towards the higher parts of the skifield. These are known as “ The Towers ” and also the South Face . Since 2005, the resort is being served by a high speed six seat chair lift which has made it possible to reach the top of the field in only six minutes.

The skiing season in the Mount Hutt ski area is from June to October or November. The location of the resort ensures beautiful views of nature. There are twenty five ski runs in the resort in the 901 Acres of skiable area. The resort has a vertical rise of 2,240 feet.

The Mount Hutt ski resort has no accommodation facilities. The skiers can avail the accommodation facilities in the nearest town of Methven or in Christchurch which is a 90 minutes drive from the resort. Yet, the resort is visited by a large number of people every year for the high quality of snow available there.
