Ski Poles

Ski poles , a modern and evolved version of the walking sticks and also inspired by spears to move and balance on the snow, help the skiers to accelerate down the snow-filled skiing areas and take sharp turns while on motion. Initially, the skiers

used a single long pole on the mountain slopes by leaning or seating on it which also increased frictions needed to slow or stop the skis. However, in the modern skiing , they use two skiing poles, one in each hand. The modern skis have circular baskets attached towards the bottom to prevent it from going deep into the snow. There is also a strap attached on the upper end of the pole so that the pole is never lost, even if the skier suffers a fall.

There are a few varieties of skis available, classified according to the locations where the skiing is done. For example, the poles used for the Alpine skiing assists the users to accelerate even on the snow and still maintain proper balance. In addition, they also help to time the advance turns brilliantly. There are also the poles for cross-country skiing which are really helpful in increasing the speed and balance of a skier . Usually the ski poles used in high speed skiing have curved structures to help them being in a tucked position around their bodies.

The ski poles are made from various materials like carbon fibre or wood and are selected by the skiers depending upon the comforts provided by them. With the help offered by them in skiing through perilous surfaces, ski poles remain one of the major necessities of a skier.
