The Singapore Turf Club is also known by the name of Singapore Sporting Club which was established in the year 1842. The Singapore Turf Club is renowned for horse racing and the facilities provided for it. It is the first turf club that was found in Singapore by William Henry Macleod Read who was a merchant from Scotland. The first horse race in the Singapore Turf Club took place in the year 1843. The Singapore Turf Club is also called STC by the members.
The Singapore Turf Club started teaching horse riding and train the riders when it was not a popular event in Singapore. Slowly the game of horse racing gained popularity and people started becoming interested in the form of game. Competitions were held and the event started involving huge amount of prize money. As horse racing gained pace and demand the Singapore Turf Club started improving its infrastructure and facilities. It started participating in and hosting various horse racing events. New stables were built and the sitting arrangement for the audience was improved.
Besides horse racing the Singapore Turf Club provides facilities for golf and artillery skills. The place has nine hole golf course. The Singapore Turf Club, now boasts of its Kranji course that was built in the year 2000. The estimated cost of the course is around five million dollars. The inauguration of the Kranji course was huge and was supported by the crowd of around 28,000 people. The first race at the Kranji course was aired live throughout the world. The Singapore Turf Club is famous all over the world for its horse races and events.
