Tara is noted as one of the eminent Serbia National Parks from 1981, in the mountainous zone of Western Serbia.
The vast Tara park covers the areas of Zvezda and Tara mountains and also some portion of the Drina river. The total area covered by Tara National Park is some 22,000 hectares and the high location of the park makes it superbly attractive. The height of the park alters from 250 to 1,500 meters. Tara National Park is looked after from its management office in Bajina Basta. The entire region of the national park is composed of a group of hills, mountain peaks and undulating lands. There are numerous deep gorges, out of which the Drina gorge is the most dramatic and attracts overwhelming attention. Other notable features that characterize the park are springs, pits, karst caves and many more spots.
Attractions of Tara National Park
The forests in Tara National Park span for about three fourth of the entire area. The quality of the vegetation in these forests is very high and they get the best attention when it comes to preservation processes. The park proudly houses rare species of spruce and tertiary, that can be found in just small patches. The state makes a genuine endeavor to protect these rare and beautiful coniferous trees. The rich variety of wildlife such as wild boar, roe deer, Alps shrew, bear, chamois, wild cat and many more are sheltered within the folds of the park.
Tara National Park and its surrounding regions have given a wide significance to Serbia tourism.
