Serbia Festivals

The Serbia festivals are unique i terms of their culture and their sense of celebration. The festivals of any country for that matter is dependent on the religious adherence of the people.

The Serbians are multicultural but the Serbian Orthodox Church exerts some amount of influence on the way public holidays are declared in Serbia. Though the government of the country is secular in treatment to all, it recognizes the major religious festivities of the orthodox church as the national holidays.

The orthodox church festivals include the Christmas day celebration, the Christmas eve celebration, the second day of Christmas, the Good Friday, Easter and Easter Monday.

The other popular non-religious Serbia Festivals includes the Exit Festival and the Guca Festival. The Exit festival which draws thousands of Serbian youths to participate and enjoy in the musical Gala serves more than just entertainment purpose.

The founders of this festival, Novi Sad , Bojan Boskovic and Dusan Kovacevic intended to reach out to the youth along with this festivity certain socio-political issues that required immediate attention such as the NATO interference in Serbia. This festival which has been held since 2000, is celebrated for 4 days.

Another of Serbia festivals known for its queer trumpet music is the Guca festival celebrated in the Guca town. The festival ground though rather a noisy place is full of fun and warm, joyous people. This Serbian festival draws more than three million people. The other religions follow their individual festivities according to their respective religious calenders but these festivities are not officially recognized.
