West Lothian Attractions
Blackness Castle in West Lothian belongs to the 15th century. It is situated close to the Blackness village. Sir George Crichton constructed this site it in 1445. The closeness of the castle to the sea made it a natural harbor. But later it was converted into the Royal prison.
The castle was re-fortified in the 16th century and it was one of the contemporary castles of that time. The entrances of the castle were made complex. After the invasion of Scotland in 1650 the castle again became a prison. In 1870 a number of barracks and quarters were later constructed. Later Franco Zeffirelli's Hamlet was shot here.
Cairnpapple Hill, in the northern lowlands of Scotland, has the highest summit in West Lothian. Earlier the hill was used as a religious place. The mountain was totally covered by plants in the 19th century. During the excavations of 1947 to 1948 excavations were carried out. A number of sacred monuments were found.
Linlithgow Palace in the town of Linlithin is a beautiful palace. History says that it was destroyed in a fire but later it was rebuilt.
