Skye is the largest island of Scotland. The island of Skye lies on the Northern part of the country. Isle is one of the beautiful islands of Scotland and is also marked as a well known tourist spot. The name of the capital city is Portee, which is also known for its beautiful harbours.

History of Skye

The history of Skye can be dated back to the Mesolithic period. The sites of Skye are mostly occupied by the hunters of the Mesolithic period. In the later half of the eighteenth century, the island of Skye was encountered by famine. This lead to the decline of population in 1991. Today, Skye stands as one of the most visited islands in Scotland.

The most popular sport of Skye is Shinty and Football. On the island's west coast lie the Talisker Distillery, known for the production of whiskey. Music also forms an important part of their culture. The Skye Boat and the traditional songs are the most popular in the island. Folk-music is also followed in Skye. Among the most popular festivals, the Skye Music Festival is visited by large crowds.
